the version of tar in 1.4.2 i386 is gnu 1.11.2, from 1993.
The latest gnu tar is version 1.13.

I looked at the tar in the 1.5_ALPHA and 1.5_ALPHA2
(alpha) and it is still version 1.11.2.

So, is there a reason for not updating to a more
recent version??  Version 1.11.2 has some problems,
one of which is described in PR/10009.

Do -current users have some knowledge/requirements about
why/why_not to keep old version?
