This isn't strictly NetBSD-related, but I figure a number of people
here will care.

NEC and Packard Bell NEC have been sued in a class action claiming
misrepresentation of the battery life of their notebook computers. The
court has preliminairly approved a settlement under which owners of
such machines may recieve one of:

(1) a new LiIon battery for the Versa
(2) a PS/2 "Y" adapter, mouse, and keyboard
(3) an AC adapter

The following models are eligible:

2400-series (2430CD, 2405, 2405CD, 2435CD)
2500
2600
2700
6000-series (6010, 6010H, 6030, 6030H, 6030X, 6000H)
6200

If you have one of these computers that you purchased, new, before 10
December 1999, you can file to recieve one of the above options.

The telephone number to call to recieve the paperwork (which is
essentially "serial number" and "date purchased") is 1-888-275-0530.

The deadline for filing the paperwork is 1 May 2000, and it takes them
a couple of weeks to get you the paperwork. Questions can be directed
to the Class Manager at Carrigan, Lapin & Landa, LLP, 500 Dallas
St. Sute 2600, Houston TX 77002, (713)654-4400, or (800)856-4412, or
at class@cllw.com.

I have one of these laptops (a 2405CD) that I run NetBSD on, and I'd
just about given up on it having a useful battery. We'll see if this
pans out.
