We've got a Seagate DDS3 drive here that reports itself as:

st0 at scsibus0 targ 4 lun 0: <ARCHIVE, Python 04106-XXX, 7270> SCSI2 1/sequential removable
st0: st0(ncr0:4:0): 6.7 MB/s (150 ns, offset 15)

and it works like a charm under 1.4.1.  (We're using a NCR53c875 controller 
instead of a 2940, but that shouldn't matter much.)
