I think I recall someone saying StarOffice needed a linux system call that
wasn't added to the emulation until after the 1.4 branch.  Ie, you need
-current.  Perhaps someone who can fill in the details or correct me can
comment.

btw, there is a star office package in pkgsrc/misc/staroffice
