If this is true, the server is broken.   It's required to take the
client identifier in favor of the MAC address.   I'd be _very_
surprised if an NT server were to fail on this, though, since all
Microsoft clients send client identifiers.

It may be that you just have a broken Microsoft server, and should
install some service packs.   I wouldn't run a pre-4.0-SP4 server, for
example.
