Then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Besides, if the monitor puts
up on-screen graphics when you use the buttons to adjust the picture, it's
easily got enough microcontroller power to deal with bogus video timing.

In any case, the monitors never explode immediately; they heat up first and
then something melts and catches fire. If you only do brief experiments with
untested video timings, there's very little chance of you damaging anything.

Plus there's always returning it under warranty :)
