I'm not certain what the difference between the 600 and 600E is (if there
is one), but I run NetBSD quite successfully on my 600.  I did need
to set APM_DISABLE_INTERRUPTS to 0 in the kernel to allow the laptop
to resume from suspend correctly.  (This is more recent than 1.4, but I'm
not sure if it got rolled into 1.4.1 or not.)

Other than that, I'm reasonably happy with it.
