Good idea.  I swapped the two drives and ... nothing changed. I mean,
the slow drive was still slow on the secondary master and the fast
drive was still fast on the primary slave.  This means that

1) I was wrong (as I said)

2) NetBSD doesn't like the Asus 40x ATAPI CD?

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
