There are some notes how to install on a laptop somewhere.
It might help to disable all devices which are not immediately
needed in the BIOS.

The installation boot floppy contains a kernel without
wscons, to save space probably.
You could build a custom kernel and put it to a boot floppy
yourself.
It's not hard - ask if you need assistance.
