Hm.  You could be right, but then my experiences with SETI@Home are a
little disturbing---a long (20 hours? 24 hours?) run at heavy CPU load
with no X, vs. relatively quick lockups with X.

I believe so.  (I don't think that I fiddled with the defaults.)

I don't know if Quake II is nice'd.

I should have posted mine.  (^&  Config is a modified GENERIC (mostly I
just trimmed drivers that I didn't need & adjusted the time-zone).  CPU is
a Pentium II @ 233mHz.
