We've just installed NetBSD 1.4 on a Dell Latitude CPi laptop. All is well
except for the audio, which doesn't work.
I've searched the archives of this list and saw a posting from Jason and
response from Lennart on this subject but I think that might have been
talking about an older version of the laptop with a crystal sound chip. I
believe the model we have has a Neomagic MagicMedia 256AV combined
graphics/audio chip.
According to the (marketing) information on the Neomagic site (at
http://www.neomagic.com/products_mmedia_256av.html) the audio portion of
this chip is an "AGP/PCI integrated audio controller" with "Full
Sound Blaster [tm] compatibility with companion NM3298" that "Provides
no-compromise Sound Blaster [tm] compatibility using the traditional
ISA bus interface without giving up high performance AGP/PCI audio
features". It sounds great - the problem is that the 1.4 kernel
doesn't find a sound blaster with the standard GENERIC sb probe.
Does anyone know if this really is a sound blaster compatible as far
as NetBSD is concerned. Also, any clues as to what the companion
NM3298 is and whether this laptop has one...
Thanks in advance.
