I've got another question while using another machine with 1.4 (that I've
succesfully upgraded t 1.4)

I've compiled a new kernel for it and put german_kbd supported into the
compile options.
After rebooting the machine with the new kernel I've recognized that this
does not work. There is still a english keymap installed.
