OK, here's the report from one guinea-pig:

I have a NEC Versa 6050MX witha TI1130 CardBus controller.

* If I boot with no cards inserted the machine comes up, but plugging
  and unplugging cards (PCMCIA and/or CardBus) does not cause
  any reaction.
* If I boot with a CardBus card inserted (a USB controller) it finds the
  card, but something goes wrong.  See dmesg output below.
  Not how the 82437MX is attached to cbb0.
* If I boot with a PCMCIA 3Com 3C589C card inserted the kernel
  hangs right after it has printed a line with info that start with `ep0
at ...'.
  I can copy it by hand if you need more info.  The machine has to be
reset
  to wake up.

I'll be happy to run more tests.
