Hi all i386ers,
<<please note...I'm not on i386 list. Please send all replies (or cc:) to me>>
I use NetBSD/Alpha & Mac68k, but I'm trying to help a friend who just built
a generic Peecee & is trying to run NetBSD on it. He's got a Compaq
Presario 300 Mhz running Windows in a lan setting with a Linksys hub. The
problem is that when the Compaq is connected via PPP to the Internet when
he brings up the BSD machine, he gets the following trap. If the Compaq
isn't connected to the Net at the time, then it comes up fine & the two
computers can communicate together. He's using an NE2000 clone Ethernet
card in the NetBSD machine. The motherboard is quite generic (I forget the
name brand) as you can tell from the DMESG. Here's the trap:

Kernel: page fault trap, code=0
Stopped at _pk_input+0x77a: testb %bh,0x3(%esi)

Trace reveals:

_pk_input(f089a300,0,f0101e64,f2bb6d5c,f0101ee7) at _pk_input+0x77a
_arpintr(10,10,f043248c,f20ef48c,f2bb6dd4) at _arpintr+0xc5
Bad frame pointer: 0xf2bb6d5c

Here's what the dmesg command reveals:
