Similar problem with a cnet 10/100 MBit card under current:
de0: 21140A [10-100Mb/s] pass 2.2

Its connected to a 10 MBit Hub. I have to ifconfig it to correct Speed and 
Media Type, or it probes forever.

Seems to me, the de driver is kind of broken, at least when probing.
