 libXpm.so is a non-standard library, and not part of X11R6.

 Please have a look at the package system on the 2nd Gateway! CD-ROM,
you are apparently using. The tool "pkg_add" normally checks for 
dependencies, thus installing fvwm would have installed xpm before
that.

 A good idea is to use the more stable, and more-fetured pkg-system
found on the NetBSD Webserver.
