All mail in and out pass through sendmail(8). It has a configuration
file /etc/sendmail.cf which - as I understand it - can be modified to
do almost anything. It may help you, although I don't know how.
sendmail experts are probably the right ones to contact. See
http://www.sendmail.org/.

BTW, in /usr/share/doc/smm/08.sendmailop is Eric Allmans guide to
sendmail.
