Probably this device uses the I2O ("Intelligent I/O") standard pushed by
Intel and a bunch of partners. The i960 would be running an RTOS based on
technology from my current employer, Wind River.

For a while the I2O people have kept a tight rein on the standard, so that
it was basically not feasible for open source projects to write drivers.

However I have heard that they plan to remove many restrictions once there
are enough reference implementations and critical mass behind the "right
way" of doing things. But that remains to be seen...
