In general, as many as practical.

However, you may not see much of an efficiency increase unless you use
SCSI drives.  If so, put swap on every disk, because the asynchronous
nature of SCSI will distribute the load very nicely.

number and increase the size? (8 * 32MB, 4 * 64MB, 2 * 128MB or 1 *
256MB?)

In general, is there a limit on how many disks the NetBSD swap-system
can effectively use?
