I scanned through the archives but didn't see the problem I am having.
Please excuse my missing the info if it is in the archives somewhere and I
overlooked it.
I am attempting to install NetBSD.
If I use the entire disk, the install appears to go
OK. However, if I do not use the entire disk, I get the following messages.
Hopefully I have included enough.
After the superblocks have been written, I get:
--------------------
newf: ioctl(WDINFO): No such process
newfs: /dev/rwd0a: can't rewrite disk label
/sbin/newfs/dev/rwd0a failed with a return code = 256
This is probably due to choosing the incorrect top-level install option -
like
trying to do an upgrade on a bare disk or doing a fresh installation on
an
already-running system. Or it might be due to a mispackaged miniroot.
Whatever the cause, sysinst did not expect any errors here and the
installation has almost certainly failed.
I get this sequence of messages twice during the installation process--after
each sequence of superblocks is written.
-----------------------
I have a 6.4 GB Western Digital hard drive with a maximum-sized primary DOS
partition (~2 GB) and an extended DOS partition and then specify a NetBSD
partition (~1.5 GB)
at the end of the disk.
I created a NetBSD partition (~1.5 GB) immediately following the Primary DOS
partition (2.045 GB) and then followed that with the Extended DOS partition.
NetBSD appeared to install ok, i.e., the error messages went away.
However, DOS could not find the extended DOS partition to format the drives
(D&E) in that partition. In Win95, I was able to format them and access
them from a DOS window. However when I booted into DOS, drives D&E were not
accessible.
Do I have a problem or can I ignore those error
messages? Thanks in advance for any help.
