  I was trying to upgrade my notebook to 1.3.
  It has been running 1.2B with PCMCIA patches for some time.

  My first attempt was several weeks ago, and I thought I'd just
put a 1.3 kernel on, and update /sbin for now... that didn't work, so this
evening I booted the 1.3 install floppy, and mucked around.
  {I had my install sets on wd0a, and I have only one partition. sysinst
wants to mount it as /mnt for writing and /mnt2 for reading. Oops. I did
things by hand}

  Okay, now I realize why the network is hosed: the ep0 gets IRQ 15
when it is in one slot, and IRQ 11 in the other slot. Neither seems to work.
A tcpdump shows the arp requests going out, and the replies, but the
notebook doesn't see them.

  Before I restore the notebook from backup, is there something I should try?
My notebook has no PnP stuff in its BIOS: it is too old.

  [Still recovering from a disk crash during the weekly backup. My appologies
if you get more than one response: My home directory is now timewarped back
two weeks. All my corporate stuff lives on another disk!]
