Afterstep 1.0 compiles out of the box for i386.. I was looking at making an
afterstep 1.3 beta package (thats what I run here) but 

a) the install is really wacky and requires dumping massive trees into the
user's home dir

b) the source tars are beta.. and thus highly volatile.. changing constantly..

I guess if someone wants I'd be willing to make a 1.0 package.
