My mouse works now. Plugging it into a working serial port helped. (Doh!)
tip clued me in to the fact that nothing was coming from tty00, so I
checked the hardware. Operator error strikes - I'd accidentally plugged
the mouse into a serial connector that wasn't currently hooked up to the
multi board.
I've encountered a problem. Every once in a while my keyboard will freeze
up. Or, at least, it seems to freeze. One thing I *have* noticed is that
when it freezes, I see a login process when I run 'ps' as root. My guess
here is that somehow the keyboard is being disconnected from X and re-
attached to the console.
I've just tried disabling logins on /dev/ttyv0. Maybe the getty process
that's attached to that is grabbing my keystrokes? Everything seems to be
going well now, but I'll have to run it for a while to see if I can manage
to lock it up.
Thanks to everyone for the help with my mouse. I appreciate the help,
and I promise to try to keep the volume of my incessant questioning to a
minimum for a while as a sort of reward to the list for the aforementioned
help. :)
