3 months ago, i installed NetBSD 1.2 in a Compaq Prosignia VS (EISA)
Intel 486/66, no cache, 32 MB RAM
3c579 (EISA Etherlink III) int=10
AHA-2742T (Adaptec SCSI-II contoller) int=11

I tried install 1.2 with the generic kernel (adaptec).
I could install the floppies, but when i wished ftp the tar files,
in the ifconfig command, the machine stopped with the "stray interrupt 7"
message.
(ifconfig must take link0 and link1!!!)

Then... i configured the machine with the EISA utilities, (no serial ports,
no paralell ports) (stray int 7 means a conflict with lpt2).
Same results.

Then i make an "exact kernel" (just the devices in the machine) in a
generic PC, i copied the kernel to the floppies and i got the same results.

Next card: 3c509

The same problem (3c509 (ISA) is the same chips of 3c579 (EISA)).

Next card: SMC 8216 (UTP, int=10, cc000 and 300)
(Previusly i made a new kernel)

WORST!!!! the machine didn't boot

Next card: an old SMC 8013 (UTP, int=10, cc000 and 300)
(with the kernel of SMC8216).

It worked!!! (3 days of hard tests)
(more of 870 KB per second when i ftp'ing tar files)

I am not an expert in this (don't ask me why). I told you just 3 of my
tests, but i am sure that i did more of 10 tests. I am an user of NetBSD
from 0.9 version and a lot of NetBSD boxes installed.

The "stray interrupt 7" has been a big problem for me with EISA boxes.
My machine at office is a HP Vectra 486/33T with EISA bus, 16 MB RAM,
AHA-1740 EISA SCSI-II contoller and 3c579 UTP EISA ethernet card. This
machine can't boot alone NetBSD 1.2 because the message "stray int 7". All
i do is CTRL-C at the stray int 7 message and it starts NetBSD fine!!!.

Then I extracted the paralell port card and the machine can work NetBSD
fine with no problems!!!

I hope this experience helps.
