I use 1.2D on my dialin server and mgetty 1.1.0, built on May
29. (So definitely built with 1.2D source and headers)
  I get:

Sep 9 16:41:09 lox mgetty[315]: tio_get_rs232_lines: TIOCMGET failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
Sep 9 16:41:09 lox mgetty[315]: tcsetattr failed: Invalid argument
Sep 9 16:47:38 lox mgetty[315]: failed A_FAIL dev=tty01, pid=315, caller=none, conn='', name=''

  Is this what you mean?

Yes, I noticed the same thing. I vaguely recall that a much older
version of kermit did the right thing, but I didn't have source to
that version and wanted to change some compile options. So, maybe it
is a problem with the #define for TIOCMGET?
