Hi everybody,

a few moments ago we have added another two 32MB memory modules to one
of our servers, which gives it a total of 128MB RAM now. Unfortunately
the machine doesn't work correctly anymore with the new memory. (The
RAM modules were tested in another machine, before we added them, so I
suppose they are okay.)

Okay, what happens: I compile a new kernel with the EXTMEM option set
as follows:

 | options EXTMEM_SIZE=130048 # size of extended memory

That should be 127*1024. I boot it... the machine comes up fine until
the following point:

 | [...]
 | npx0 at isa0 port 0xf0-0xff: using exception 16
 | pc0 at isa0 port 0x60-0x6f irq 1: color
 | pms0 at pc0 irq 12
 | fdc0 at isa0 port 0x3f0-0x3f7 irq 6 drq 2
 | fd0 at fdc0 drive 0: 1.44MB 80 cyl, 2 head, 18 sec
 | pci0 at mainbus0 bus 0: configuration mode 1
 | vendor 0x8086 product 0x1237 (class bridge, subclass host, revision 0x02) at pci0 dev 0 function 0 not configured
 | vendor 0x8086 product 0x7000 (class bridge, subclass ISA, revision 0x01) at pci0 dev 7 function 0 not configured
 | vendor 0x5333 product 0x8811 (class display, subclass VGA, revision 0x54) at pci0 dev 10 function 0 not configured
 | biomask c040 netmask cc40 ttymask dcda

and here it goes *whamm* and I get a system panic with an altogether
ununderstandable error code.

So I boot the old kernel again (which is identical except for the
EXTMEM setting) and now I have nothing but problems with occasional
signal 11 being sent to my processes.

Does anybody have any ideas what might be wrong?

	-peter
