A quick follow up question to this. When I looked at the geometry that 
pfdisk reported, it was not the same as the translated geometry that my 
BIOS was detecting. Was one cylinder less, if I remember correctly.

Does DOS do an extra bit of munging on the geometry that changes what 
pfdisk reports?

This isn't important, I'm just curious.
