Ok, thanks for the reports.  It turned out that what was biting
me was the recent changes to mbuf.h and the not-yet-diagnosed
compiler bug which caused the elink3.c driver to malfunction.
I've since dug up Chris' message with the patch to mbuf.h and
applied it to my sources, and the machine in question is now
happily running 1.2G userland and a slightly newer kernel.
