I'm currently doing 1152x900 on my i486 with an et4000 card and a
ViewSonic 17" screen - the result is very unimpressive when sitting
next to the Sony 17" attatched to my sun386i.  I like white text on a
dark blue background, and with the et4000/Viewsonic, I cannot read
white text at all at that resolution (even at 640x480 its not good).

The viewsonic has 3 BNC connectors (cf. 4 on the Sony, 4th is
vert-sync I believe), I'd like to try the Viewsonic monitor on the
sun386i to establish if it is the video card or the monitor (looked
good in the show-room...) anyone know how much harm it might do to
leave out the h-sync signal?
