i got the custom kernel from brian and things went great!!! however, i was
compiling an even more custom kernel (with some minor modifications, brian's
was just to get ethernet access so i could mount the NetBSD source tree off
of the machine it is on. in the middle of the 'make depend' (or maybe closer
to the end) i got this error:

May 22 12:59:28 rtfm /netbsd: ed0: warning - receiver ring buffer overrun
May 22 12:59:28 rtfm /netbsd: ed0: warning - receiver ring buffer overrun

just like that. 'make depend' seems to have stopped (remember that the source
tree is NFS mounted)

any ideas?

I'm asking because I've got two VS3100's in need of a real and pleasant to
use operating system. (VMS is unpleasant and Ultrix is not a real OS).
