Uh. Can't ar be fixed instead? I work for someone who will soon have
30000 users on the NetBSD box, so I'd like to know that I can go past
65535 without problems.

Is anyone going to improve the pw system to work faster with huge
password files (ie. not to rebuild the whole database when one password
is changed)?
