I'm sure I had a kernel configured thus fail to boot properly, although I
swear I'm using the same kernel now and it's ok (it wasn't named netbsd
though, so if I typo'd...but :/)

btw, on the subject of default kernel config (i.e. GENERIC), how about
ed1 for irq5 rather than both ed0 and ed1 being irq9 ?
