Pitty.  I have scripts that do all this for an APC Smart-UPS.

BTW for unattended systems, you generally do NOT want to power down the UPS.
I don't know about the Back-UPS, but if the host tells a Smart-UPS to
power down,  it does not come back up when the power does.  Nasty!  I
had a cluster of machines down all weekend as a result.

I now just let the UPS run, and I have it programmed not to restart
the computer until it has at least 10% capacity restored.
