I am having trouble installing NetBSD-1.2/i386 on two systems
which have on-board Adaptec SCSI controllers. One of them
has an AIC-7880 and the other an AIC-7770 (I think).

I am able to boot from the install floppy, which does "see" the disk,
complete the install process which creates the initial filesystems on the
hard disk, and copy the kernel to the disk.

The boot messages from one of the systems are:
ahc1 at pci0 dev 2 function 0
ahc1: interrupting at irq 9
ahc1: Reading SEEPROM...checksum error
ahc1: No SEEPROM availible
ahc1: Using left over BIOS settings
ahc1: aic7880 Single Channel, SCSI Id=7, 16 SCBs
ahc1: Reseting Channel A
ahc1: Downloading Sequencer Program...Done
scsibus0 at ahc1
ahc1: target 0 synchronous at 10.0MHz, offset = 0xf
sd0 at scsibus0 targ 0 lun 0: <SEAGATE, SST32550N, 8303> SCSI2 0/direct fixed
sd0: 2033MB, 3511 cyl, 11 head, 107 sec, 512 ytes/sec

The typos for "available" and "resetting" should be fixed, but otherwise
these messages appear to be "normal".

But then I cannot boot from the hard disk. The screen goes blank with
the words "Read error" at the upper left and the system hangs. The
netbsd boot prompt never appears. I did try reloading the boot blocks.

The disk works fine attached to a BusLogic controller in another system.
Windows NT will install and work fine on these systems.

Thanks for any suggestions...
