Recently I configured my 1.2 system to use 64 ptys, however I can never ever
get more that 32 xterms.

Looking through the mailing archive I noticed that Neil J. McRae reported this
bug

Description:
When running a kernel with more that 32 pty's after opening ttyqe
   /var/run/utmp is not updated correctly:
Note that I have ttyp0 through to ttyr5 in use, but who/finger/w does not
indicate them, and where I to open another xterm the ttyr5 would be over
written with an entry for ttyr6

Does anyone if this got fixed?

Regards Darryl.
