Thanks for the replies.
So I've put together db_interface.c and the stub
(non-GPL'd indeed) from GDB and have a kgdb
which uses the standard gdb serial protocol.
It works for me with a plain gdb-4.16 set up as
cross debugger from mips-dec-ultrix to
i386-none-netbsd.
If there is interest, I can make it available.
