this should probally be addressed to port-i386 and not general
-current; assuming of course you are on i386.

there was back before the 1.2 release an issue with interrupt driven
lpt ports that caused my machines to reboot when they tried to print.
part of the problem turned out to be wetware error; i hadn't connected
the lpt port to the mb correctly.  

if you remove the irq XX from your kernel config and generate a polled
lpt kernel and that -doesn't- crash.  then its the interrupt issue
again.  unfortunately polled printing is deathly slow.
