Subject: Serial Port Write Errors in 1.2

On a couple of machines I've just installed 1.2 on, the serial
ports seem to be `broken.' As soon as I try to write to them (e.g.,
do a `cu -l tty00 dir' and type a key) I get `Input/output error'.

This doesn't happen on the built-in serial ports on my Asus 486SP3G.
It does happen on the built-in serial ports on an Asus Triton II
Pentium motherboard, and also on both a serial card and an internal
modem card on a rather old 486. We've tested the 486 under DOS,
and the internal modem card works fine there.

On all of the machines the com ports probe properly on boot.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here?
