That said, I recall someone mentioning some work on a re-write of the 
lpt drivers to allow easier integration of parallel zip drivers, tape
drives, etc. 

Is anyone working on this yet? Soon after 1.2 or sometime in the future?
I just am curious if I should start this soon, or wait for some of the
changes. 

If no one has any comments I'll start right away.
