I'm trying to use the assembler from gnu binutils 2.6.

I haven't been able to get the assembler to emit usable object code. Its
output is just slightly different from that of the distributed as; ld will
accept it but produces a non-usable executable.

Has anyone had any success using gnu as from binutils 2.6? Could you provide
me with some pointers?

(This is part of some fiddling around my group is doing with booting [via
DHCP], so I really would like to have gnu's assembler with its 16 bit mode
support)
