I have docs on the Cirrus chip in front of me...

It says the "CL-GD5420" can do:

       - dot clock up to 75Mhz
       - 32x32 hardware cursor
       - Resolutions up to 1024x768
         - 1024x768x16 interlaced and non-interlaced.
         - 1024x768x256 interlaced
         - 800x600x[16,256]

But the CL-GD5422/5424/5426 can do:

       - Video overlay with color key
       - dot clock programmable up to 80Mhz.
       - 64x64 hardware cursor
       - Resolutions up to 1280x1024
         - 1280x1024x16 color interlaced
         - 1024x768x[16,256] interlaced and non-interlaced.
         - 800x600x[32k,64k]
         - 640x480x16.8M

The 5424/5426 have "a 16bit '386 and '486 local bus interface'.

The 5426 apparently has "BitBLT for GUI acceleration and 2MBYTES of 
                         display memory".


Anyway, it kind of looks like a non-exciting chip in any event...
