Probably. The NCR driver is not too bad, but isn't rock solid production
stable at this point in time.

I use Adaptec 1542CFs on my smaller machines and the older Buslogic
controller (BT942, I think, in the PCI version, and something else
in the VESA version) on larger ones. I've never had trouble with
either. My news server, which is no slouch in the disk I/O
department, is rock solid, and reasonably fast (5-6 MB/sec on a
Quantum Atlas).
I've heard of problems with the Adaptec 2xxx controllers in the
recent past.
