Subject: IDE problems at remote site

I have a user who is about 10,000 miles away, with a NetBSD 1.0A
system that has been running very well for about 8 months.

In the last few days, though, the hard drive (IDE) has been giving
errors of the form:

Jan 31 03:05:26 xserv /netbsd: wd0g: hard error reading fsbn 274348 of
274336-274351 (wd0 bn 1330732; cn 1320 tn 2 sn 46)

The system (apparently) continues to work, but we're concerned.
Is there any way to work around this (mark out the bad blocks
and go on)? Ideally we'd be able to schedule the replacement,
rather than having them be down for a lengthy interval while
the drive is being shipped to them.

Thanks in advance....
