We have found this not to be the case, currently we are using:

options         NKMEMCLUSTERS=10240
options         NMBCLUSTERS=6144

This is on a www cache box that sees load averages in the 100's, we are 
building a new box with 2 ethernets and 2 scsi buses at this time, and we had 
to tweak these settings alot to get good results.
