As did I, with a different disk configuration...

Yes, the driver is very clean. Much nicer then the FreeBSD one.

However...

Although the driver tries to find my CDROM, it fails. The relevant
portion from dmesg:

wdc0 at isa0 port 0x1f0-0x1f7 irq 14
wd0 at wdc0 drive 0: 1222MB, 2484 cyl, 16 head, 63 sec, 512 bytes/sec <WDC AC31200F>
wd0: using 16-sector 16-bit pio transfers, lba addressing
wd1 at wdc0 drive 1: 696MB, 1416 cyl, 16 head, 63 sec, 512 bytes/sec <QUANTUM LIGHTNING 730A-2>
wd1: using 8-sector 16-bit pio transfers, lba addressing
atapibus0 at wdc0
wdc1 at isa0 port 0x170-0x177 irq 15
wd2 at wdc1 drive 0: 814MB, 1654 cyl, 16 head, 63 sec, 512 bytes/sec <WDC AC2850F>
wd2: using 16-sector 16-bit pio transfers, lba addressing
atapibus1 at wdc1
ATAPI_IDENTIFY_DEVICE failed for drive 1

As you can see, this is a full machine. Before connecting the CDROM
back up, I also got some 'stray interrupt 7' messages.

(BTW, the FreeBSD driver correctly ids the drive as a Sony CDROM drive,
so nothing is wrong with the hardware...)

Normal IDE operations feel stable. (It's a non-DMAble PCI controller.)
