I don't have an IBM think thinkpad. I just installed NetBSD-current
and XFree86 3.1.2 on a Texas Instruments TM4000 with a track point and
it works...

The only difference with your setup (apart from the hardware) is that I
run pccons on this machine not pcvt.

May I suggest that you try to look at the diffs between FreeBSD's
pms.c and the one of NetBSD ?
