Here's a bit of weirdness I recently found out with my mitsumi CD-ROM drive.
Setup: 486DX2/66, 20 Meg, mitsumi FX001D, NetBSD-i386-current of June 30.
Scenario:

1. get the CD-ROM that comes with the UNIX System Administration Handbook
(Second Edition, Nemeth et al. , Prentice Hall '94).
2. mount -t cd9660 -r /dev/mcd0a /cdrom
3. cd /cdrom/sysadm
4. cat amd.tar > /dev/null

There are other files in the same directory that give the same results.
However, other files in differnet directories don't show this behaviour.
A "copy amd.tar nul" using DOS works fine.
Is it just me or can someone else repeat this with the same results ?
