Thanks to all the helpful people who responded to my questions about
the AST 4-port card drive.  It turns out that the solution is to
explicitly configure com2-com5, rather than using the "com*" wildcard
notation.  Apparently the autoconfig code that handles wildcard
devices doesn't work quite right...
