Well, it worked fine for me the last few times I've tried to format a
floppy.  Maybe it's flaky code pilfered from FreeBSD; maybe it's flaky
PC hardware causing you problems?

I can generate an updated patch to -current (as of a few days before
sun-lamp's coma), if people are itchy for said code.
