Hi !

I'm seeking help with a problem I encountered after equipping my
NetBSD-1.0 box with a Adaptec 1542CF SCSI adapter.
My config: i486/66,UMC 8810AIO PCI/ISA board, 8Meg RAM,
PCI-IDE controlled IDE disk, Quantum LPS340S SCSI disk
           at 1542cf.
Problem: I'm able to boot with the kcaha/inst-fs floppies into
single-user mode and can do a disklabel sd0 which gives the
correct data of the LPS340. The disk is reported at boot-time
as follows,though: sd0 at scsibus0 targ 2 lun 0 (unknownunknown ...) SCSI0
direct fixed, 0 MB, 2337 cyl., 4 heads, 0 sec
This obviously is mostly wrong, the 2337 cyl. and 4 heads are correct.
Now, in single-user mode i can newfs the scsi drive and mount the partitions
but if I try to copy files on it, the machine crashes with a panic
and instantly reboots. No chance to see what is going on.
If I try to boot into multi-user from wd0, I get as far as
"setting tty flags". After that the machine crashes with a vm_fault
and reboots.

If someone with a similar configuration or anyone with any clue
would *please* share their experiences with me ?
(I'm no specialist in PC hardware configuration problems which
may arise when installing a bus-master DMA device, so I'd need
some hints on which topics to look at).

    thanks for reading

            Jochen
